IWAS is pleased to confirm that its 2011 General Assembly will be held on Saturday 3rd December in Sharjah, U.A.E

The assembly will coincide with the 2011 IWAS World Games that will run from the 1st – 10th December and will be held at the same location.

Following the signing of the contract last month for the IWAS World Games to be held in Sharjah, UAE later this year we are pleased to announce the sports list for the event.

The first four sports to be included in this years World Games have been confirmed. Athletics, Powerlifting and Table Tennis (no points) will form part of the Games.

Sharjah, UAE announced as hosts of IWAS World Games 2011

The International Wheelchair and Amputee Sport Federation (IWAS) announced today that the bid to host the IWAS World Games 2011 has been awarded to Sharjah, UAE. The Games will take place from 1 to 10 December 2011, at the Althiqah Club for Handicapped and other venues in the city of Sharjah.

After a week-end to recoup since returning back to England, IWAS HQ takes the opportunity to provide a brief overview of our 2 weeks in Bangalore, India on the occasion of the IWAS World Games 2009 hosted by the Paralympic Committee of India as the Local Organising Committee (LOC).

IWAS World Games 2009 Opening Ceremony

The IWAS World Games attracted 700 participants from 44 countries to Bangalore, India. The teams were treated to a magnificent Opening Ceremony on 24th November 2009 staged at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore. The biggest cheer during the march past was received for the Indian team having 236 members and the scene was set with a firework display and a large cultural ceremony including traditional dancing, drum performance and 660 pupils from School performing a Michael Jackson dance was just a great show
