The Relevancy
and Value
of IWAS Today...

Founder Member IPC
and Key Paralympic Movement Partner

Having gone through the full circle of revolution, change and innovation in its 58 year history to date IWAS’ role in the Paralympic Movement has never been stronger than today.  It has been heavily motivated by the requirements of IWAS member nations and their athletes and the need to maintain pace with outside influences.

We focus on the goals of the Paralympic movement, and as such IWAS provides distinct athlete pathways through provision of IWAS Games programmes, both World and Junior, as recognised steps towards Paralympic Games qualification across a variety of sports.  As an IF, IWAS develops sports to Paralympic programme standard and in that situation provides IPC with the resource to put on those sports at the Paralympic Games under our sports’ rules and regulations.

We work in concert with, and complementary to, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and its sports, as well as other International Federations.
